Last week we escaped the city and headed up north to Forster for a bit of R&R.

Forster is a beautiful town on the New South Wales Mid North Coast and is situated between the Pacific Ocean and picturesque Wallis Lake.  It was our first time visiting, and we loved it. We enjoyed the warm weather, being outdoors and the great food.

Fun in the great outdoors.

If you enjoy being outdoors, Forster will have something for you.  Main Beach is perfect for swimming, either in the ocean or the ocean baths. The ocean baths are a great, protected, and family-friendly place to swim. There are a couple of cafes near the beach where you can eat in or get takeaway to enjoy under the covered picnic area or on the beach.

There are many beautiful places to go for a walk. Starting from the ocean baths, you can take the nature walk along the Bicentennial track. You can walk 4km to the end through bushland and beaches or stop at various exit points. On your way, you might even be fortunate enough to spot some Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos.

Another wander we did was along Main Beach to the breakwater. Walk along the breakwater, past the marina and across the Forster-Tuncurry bridge. You may be lucky to see dolphins and stingrays in the Coolongolook River.

If you are keen to get out on the water, head over to Wallis Lake.  You will find some rental shops where you can hire a boat, kayak or SUP.  We hired a boat for a couple of hours and had a great time exploring the lake.

Delicious Cuisine.

Forster has a great dining scene, whether you’re in the mood for fresh seafood, international cuisine, or classic pub fare.

The Sydney Rock Oysters are a delicacy from Wallis Lake, one of the many fresh seafood offerings of the Great Lakes.  Other spoils include crab, lobster and fresh fish. We did our seafood shopping at Red Spot Jetty.

There are many fantastic restaurants, such as Mexican, Italian, and Turkish cuisine. A couple we tried and enjoyed were Anatolia Turkish Cuisine and Si Senorita Mexican Cantina. Let’s not forget the delicious fish and chips from Beach Street Seafood.

It is essential for each of us to prioritise our wellbeing by taking some time out for relaxation. Our week in Forster was both enjoyable and peaceful. The time there left me feeling completely refreshed. I have added Forster to my list of places to revisit. I am looking forward to my next visit!
